LA FIESTA DEL CINE Madrid

movie tickets
Starting today, for the next three days, is Madrid’s annual “Fiesta del Cine“. From the 27th to the 29th of October, movies are only €2.90 for all those who sign up on the official website for a special code. So while we can watch almost anything online, it will never beat the feeling of seeing a movie on the big screen. Three days of dirt cheap movies in Madrid… What to see?

The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby – I thought it had something to do with the Beatles when I first heard the title. Far from it. A dramatic, romantic quest of trying to reclaim life and love as it once was, with stellar performances by Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy. This Is Where I Leave You – Anything with Tina Fey or Adam Driver in it is bound to be good. Anything with both of them in it has got to be great. And when they play the goofy sister and brother duo you know it’s going to be awesome. Since we all have our own share of dysfunctional family at times, it’s comic and therapeutic relief to watch one that might be worse than ours (even if it’s only on screen).Yves Saint Laurent – Fashion fades, style is eternal… Isn’t that what he once said? Because before Saint Laurent there was YSL and a designer who lived a passionate and somewhat scandalous life. Now we can relive it through the lens of director Jalil Lespert.Boyhood – the first movie of its kind, it was filmed in real time over 12 years with the same cast who grew up and changed in the process. From boyhood to adulthood we follow the story of Mason, who grows up on screen before our eyes, and summons a little nostalgia for our own journey.

A Most Wanted Man – Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s last movie, this thriller is said to be dense, grim and a somewhat complex tale of Russian spies. I think most people would go and see it simply as a tribute to Seymour Hoffman’s (almost always) stellar performance.
